Tethered no. 3 features wild blackberry brambles and indigo bunting bluebirds. In the spring when the birds’ morning chorus returns and the brambles are budding we have our last cold snap for the season. By mid June when the days have grown warm and humid I’m picking wild blackberries with my daughter. We eat more than what goes in our little berry baskets. Our dog, Moose, loves berries and licks the bug eaten ones from her fingers. I love these seasonal rhythms and the memories attached to them. Berry stained fingers and my daughters first cobbler baked by herself, and Moose licking berries from the vines, and my son when he was two spitting out the bitter ones, and my elderly neighbor walking over to visit excited about the pie he would bake with basket I filled for him, and the way the wind carries the white petals in May and the sweet scent of freshly crushed blackberry leaves prepped for tea.  Every year brings another layer of memories to be recalled when the brambles are again laden with berries.
